Australia vs SA Dota
Om so I've noticed that Australia seem to be ahead of South Africa when it comes to competitive dota. I don't know if you noticed but they have a team called The Firm, which has recently entered the international competitive dota scene, and is actually doing pretty well.
http://www.d4rk.co.za/professional-replays-f7/the-firm-vs-ksint-t302.htm
Anyway this got me wondering why they seem to be doing better than we are. To give you some background
- Australia are even further away from Europe than us, so they would have the same international lag issues as us. Even though they their internet infrastructure is a bit better than ours (not much), even the asians with their imba net connections, struggle to play lag free games agains Europe.
- Their community is also based around 1 PVPGN server called "Bored Aussie" with a forum similar to ours to acompany it.
So what makes them so much better?
Some things I've noticed that could provide clues are:
- They seem to have a bigger community, with an average of about 2000 people online in peak times, whereas we have around 1000
- They have an IHL with over 300 players. I think we have 20-30
- They don't seem to have more clans than us.
- They seem to be very professionally run. Not sure about their access system, but users can join the server by invite only, to prevent banned hackers from returning (tough love). I wanted to try join to see what its like but it seems like too much effort now
So if you interested check out their forum: http://forums.boredaussie.com and contribute to what you think the difference in the two comunities are, and why they seem to be doing better
