DuC at the MSSA Nationals LAN (16 Aug 09)
There were 11 teams entered, with no1 from Cape Town or Durban - which wasn't surprising.
MSSA have always used the Swiss System for their DotA tournies, and this was no different. Each team played 5 games in total, with your next opponent based on the results of the prev game that everyone played.

Comment:
This game had to be re'd after Edge dropped during drafting, cause of a faulty network cable. O_o
80s greatly out-picked us this game. Getting Necro, Bane and Naix. X_x We left Naix for too late which allowed them to snatch him from us. :/
Riki was a fail pick, Sheng also mentioned it after chatting to them after the game.
Was kak that we had 80s as our 1st opponent, felt like we jumped into the deep end without getting a warmup on the old/stable map. :/
80s dominated almost all the gangs mid/late-game, as the score reflects.
They played incredibly well all tourney, and ended up winning it.

The amount of times DuC escaped with min HP this game was unbelieveable, considering they had a Zuez.
Demon's redeemed his Clock, as we were at one stage discussing if we should ever Clock again this tourney.

The Wits vs UJ rivalry.
lol
Was awesome to see the Legionaire as a sub for 'em.
Early-game saw Edge hold off potm/SK with his perma spamming. But with Clock sending his rockets up top, taking away Puck's auto-phase, potm was able to land a arrow, getting WITS the kill.
After Demon took their level 1 tower mid, potm/SK left top to go gang other lanes. This allowed Edge and I to push hard, and take two of the top-towers in a row...
>_<
From that point on WITS were on the back foot.
Legionaire had a rough time with Rhasta all game. With WITS sitting right behind us (back to back), we could hear him saying... "something something Rhasta, something Rhasta". >_<

This was the game we had to win to get into the top 3.
Hi5 beat AT a lil earlier, with an insane AOE strat of levi, es, omni, puck and some1 else. So we knew they might levi again.
The start was a lil rough for DuC, with Hi5 denying two towers in quick succession...
I could never get my blink/call combo to work... either calling and then blinking, or blinking and then dead before getting to call. More epic fail! X_x lol
26 mins ine, DuC took all three level 1 towers of Hi5, while losing none.
At 34 mins in we took their top and middle level 2 towers, with Hi5 only get their 1st tower(s) at 38 mins in (2x level 1 towers).
Team-battles were always epic, with both teams suffering casulties. With levi not having a blink stick all game, we were always able to engage on them 1st - but that didn't mean it was smooth sailing as they opted to tank up each of the charz.
ggwp!
Hi5 finished 4th at the tourney, and also took home the prize for Top University team (beating WITS) - we were illegible for this award since finishing 3rd superseeded it.

Comment:
lol... Can't believe they tried this on us. >_<
We were randomly chosen to draft 1st, and picked Puck. AT went for Axe and Abba straight up, we suspected they might lane-block but after seeing KOTL and the remaining two picks we dismissed the idea. Then to see Axe/Abba/KOTL top, meaning I had to leave my bot-lane and walk all the way to top to help out, so by the time I got there I was still level 1 with zero exp while they were all level 2-3. X_x
Their strat worked wonders, with Axe getting a ton of cash for Hoodie, blink and Vanguard for mid-game. Axe's spins were a great counter to Naix as well.
Death played potm in one of the prev games so I knew he was gonna farm imba imba, while Enigma bot-lane farmed for a rush blink. There's not much Edge could do to stop potm from farming up, with Death being an imba last-hitter. Enigma had his minions and Midnight Pulse to help him with farming.
Abba and KOTL played well to always keep outta sight, in the bushes - mana'ring and healing when needed. Having three top to perma attack them made farming impossible for any of us, leaving what we could for Naix.
After they took the level 1 top tower, they moved to mid-lane and took that tower in the next few mins. O_o Demon managed to take their level 1 bot-tower soon after. This saw the "Axe team" move to bot lane.
AT always kept the pressure up, only going back to base to get 'em imba items.
Late-game saw AT fully farmed up, while I had nothing for my Zuez. :/
I took a lot of flak from the guyz for only going for Axe with my lightning mid/late game. My reason being that the other two always kept well hidden, and Axe's call/ulti always tore to me pieces if I got caught too close to him. X_x Was absolutely frustrating that we couldn't do anything against it with our picks. :/
gg, vwp!
AT ended up 2nd, even though they beat 80s (who ended up 1st), they lost to Hi5 - when we spoke to AT about the loss, Nakor was saying that they took the Hi5 match lightly (so even though AT outfarmed Hi5, Hi5 had the imba AOE picks which relied only on their ulti's/spells).

Comment:

Re: DuC at the MSSA Nationals LAN (16 Aug 09)
Nice Posting
So what were the final standings?
Also a bit odd to see them sticking with 6.59, since 6.61 is pretty much being used in all international tournies now, but I guess this forms part of a larger tournament and they cant change the rules half way in...

@Edge - My bad then. >_< Just saw the final cs stat's and assumed the rest. :/
Yeah. :/ We've spoken to them about it and the admin said they decide these things in a commitee, so Shau and Demon are hopefully going to speak to the UJ dude in charge today and get him to petition a change to 6.61.Rockafella wrote:...but I guess this forms part of a larger tournament and they cant change the rules half way in...

Well done on coming 3rd
You can play the KZN team, clan TwG, on Sat night if you want. Will see if I can organise it as im in the team.
Unfortunately I was working that weekend and I also didn't have R 1 000, to cover costs to make it up

Totally forgot to mention that Edge was interviewed by the guyz from VERGE during our game against Pr0NHS - all while we were taking their level 2 tower bot-lane. >_<

VERGE finally showed their MSSA coverage epi last night. Was awesome to see Edge interviewed, with a mention of yours truly as a manager of DuC.
>_< They did the insert really well, and it def came off as cool.
